The renowned Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was visited by 4.685 million worshippers and visitors in the year 2012. With this it got into the list of 16 global attractions that includes Sydney Harbor, Australia; The Colosseum in Rome, Italy; The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France; Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa; and Central Park in New York, USA. This impressive symbol of modern Islamic architecture, can be called as a masterpiece of this genre, gathered more than 1,400 striking reviews and was ranked as top attraction by tripadvisor.
The mosque featured 82 domes, over a 1,000 columns, 24 carat gold gilded chandeliers and the world’s largest hand knotted carpet. In the mosque’s prime prayer hall, the main highlight is the world’s largest chandelier which is 15 meters in height and 10 meters in diameter and weighs 12 tonnes. This wonderful mosque in all its splendor and grandness now attracts scores of visitors. Visitors and worshipers started visiting it after its opening on December 2007 after Eid Al Adha.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is open for visitors all days except Friday Morning which reserved for worshippers only. Complimentary one hour guided tours run (Sun-Thurs) at 10am, 11am and 4.30 / 5pm.
